WESTVILLE CORRECTIONAL SERVICES WOMEN'S MONTH CELEBRATION

Hunt Road Secondary School was invited by Westville Correctional Services to join them as they were celebrating Women's month. KwaMakhutha High School and Ndongeni primary school were also invited. The aim of this celebration was to make the community and the learners understand that "Women behind bars" are still mothers and they need support from their families and the community.

Mrs Dlamini ,the organiser welcomed all the guests including Jabu Mbongwa ,the Councillor at Westville and Victor Xaba from Izwi Lo Mzansi Radio Station. Kwa Makhutha High School learners entertained the ladies by singing, dancing and acting to show mothers behind bars that everyone deserves a second chance and that women are pillars of this society.
Andile Shangase a grade 11 learner from KwaMakhutha High danced for the Ladies.

The ladies behind bars showed the community that they are full of great ideas and they are talented. They sang and danced and they designed dressed from plastic, sweet wraps, packets of chips and other items they use in prison. They seem ready to be integrated to the community and to reduce chances that they will re-offend. They were full of life and joy despite the challenges they face.
Learners were warned about substance abuse and crime. it was emphasized that prison is a dangerous place, they should focus on education and strive towards making South Africa a crime free country.
As educators we have a great challenge of preventing and reducing crime by assisting our youth to overcome crime and make right choices.

Duma Nokwanda, Ngobe Nomvula and Mvelase Sphephelo grade 8 learners at Hunt Road Secondary say:

Metropolitan SASFA U-16 Cup (Cato Manor Sports Field)

The SASFA Metropolitan league caters for the U-16 group in all high and secondary schools in South Africa. It ensures that professional development of players begins where it counts, as early as possible. Hunt Road registered for the first time in 2012, it was a great opportunity for them to play against different school and we made it to the quarter finals in the region.
This year the team didn't perform well, but enjoyed the participating and interacting with the other schools.

The team missed a lot of opportunities but at least managed to score 2 goals by Kwanele Ndlela and Pungwe Nemba.

We are looking forward to a more successful year of football in 2014.
