Its time to remember our cultures and identities in this "Rainbow Nation" We remember our past and where we come from,
time to remind people to stop children and women abuse,
we also remember South African citizens in hospitals, behind bars, orphans and kids in children's homes, who can't celebrate with us.
We salute all the heroes who fought for this freedom, who worked very hard to unite all South Africans.

HERITAGE CELEBRATION IN SOUTH AFRICA
Learners in action
Learners are also encouraged to celebrate this day to know their identity. They come to school dressed up in their tradition attires, sing and dance. In KwaZulu-Natal 24 September was known as Shaka Day in commemoration of the Zulu King, Shaka who played an important role in uniting Zulu clans into cohesive nation.
When South Africans celebrate the diverse cultural heritage, that makes up a "Rainbow Nation", it is the day to celebrate the contribution of all South Africans to the building of South Africa.
On this day Learners will remember many contributions that make up the population of South Africa.

HUNT ROAD SECONDARY DANCE GROUP
Mainiax Crew |
The Crew says "We are just a group of crazy friends with a clear vision and we see that the majority of today's idols have a very wicked and traumatising educational skeem (with very restrictive messages) that are not for the youth and kids.
Our main plan as a crew is to basically educate about the right/ appropriate things in life. Inspire people to have a brighter / clearer vision for the future , we do all this through music/ on a beat since everybody in the world has a certain percentage of passion in music and entertainment.
So as a Crazy Crew of 5, we simply here (industry) to go M.A.D. and not just MAD as in acting stupid and dumb. M.A.D. as in( Make A Difference) "

LIBRARIES AND HERITAGE SPELLING BEE COMPETITION
There is a very interesting young girl in my class this year, her name is Natasja Ludidi. During my lesson she would hide her book under my Social Science Textbook, I always acted as if i didn't see her book until they wrote my first test in which she got the highest mark, She really surprised me and I decided not to worry her.
In August 2013 The Reaching Out Libraries Development organised a competition called "Libraries and Heritage Spelling Bee Competition" at Westville Civic Centre in Durban. Assisted by Mrs R. Reddy her English Educator ,Natasja entered the competition. She competed against 30 contestants from 10 districts and she came in second place, in the first round of the competition. She feels very proud of herself as she won a voucher of stationery kit, a medal and a certificate. On 2 September which was the last round of the competition ,she made it to 8th place. " She says I was a bit disappointed but I did very well and I would like to thank my teacher ,the school and the Department of Education and Culture for this opportunity"
CONGRATULATIONS NATASJA!!!

HUNT ROAD SECONDARY TALENT
Hunt Road Secondary has got a lot of talented learners, This week I interviewed two Matric learners for my blog.
Nhlanhla Shelembe (17)
Captain of the first soccer team is one of the most talented players in the school. In 2012 he won the award of best player and the best defender of the season. He also assisted the team in a number of ways including coaching.
Although the school is under resourced Nhlanhla is a committed and dedicated player, some of the moments that inspired and motivated him was when he played in the Metropolitan Cup and Motsepe Cup. "One of the greatest moments was when Mark Davis (The former Captain Of Manning Rangers) visited the school to coach us" Says Nhlanhla.

Luthando Gumede (17)
The President of the RCL. A long jumper says he would have liked to see more sports at Hunt Road being introduced but the school is very small ,there are no grounds but Hunt Road learners never miss opportunities ,they use whatever resources that are available. "This is my last year at Hunt Road secondary but I would like the school to be developed so that learners can show their talent , I would like to see some learners in the national teams in the future "
